The Player Plan
Empowering Athletes Beyond the Field
The Player Plan is an innovative service awards program specifically designed for college athletes. This Non-Qualified Deferred Compensation program rewards athletes for their valuable contributions beyond the field of play.
How It Works
- Point-Based Compensation: Athletes earn points through a variety of school-sanctioned activities, including:
- Community service
- Volunteer work
- Serving as a resident advisor
- Assisting coaches during off-season and summer camps
- Mentoring
- Recruiting
- As well as other activities defined by the institution
- Institution-Determined Point Schedule: Each institution sets its own point schedule for these activities.
- Annual Awards: Athletes must meet a minimum point threshold each year to qualify for an award.
- Investment Accounts: Qualified athletes receive awards deposited into investment accounts, with consistent amounts disclosed in the plan document.
- Customizable Vesting Schedule: Institutions can customize the vesting schedule to fit their needs.
- Investment Choices: Athletes can select investments from portfolios aligned with their risk tolerance.
Plan assets remain an asset of the institution until the student qualifies to withdraw them.
Key Benefits
- Financial Education: Athletes gain valuable financial literacy and management skills.
- Enhanced Community Engagement: Increased involvement with both the institution and the surrounding community.
- Improved Graduation Rates: Greater academic success and higher graduation rates among participating athletes.
